Overview & Highlights

Located in the charming village of Fontecchio, Abruzzo, Costa di Maggio - Ristorante e Ospitalita offers a truly immersive dining experience that beautifully celebrates local Italian flavors with an innovative touch. This exceptional restaurant stands out for its meticulously crafted dishes, rooted in regional traditions but elevated by creative, modern techniques that awaken the palate.

The menu at Costa di Maggio is a testament to the richness of Abruzzo’s terroir. Start your journey with the Fagotto di agnello, camomilla e grana di pecora, a delicate lamb parcel infused with soothing chamomile and topped with flavorful pecorino cheese, perfectly balanced and priced at €22. For those craving something heartier yet unmistakably authentic, the Pasta e patate offers a comforting embrace of rustic Italian home cooking at €16. Another standout is the Risotto alla zucca, mandorla, arancia e capperi, where the sweet earthiness of pumpkin mingles with the subtle crunch of almonds, bright citrus notes of orange, and the briny punch of capers, creating a harmonious, multi-dimensional dish that captivates the senses.

To conclude, the dessert selection dazzles with elegant simplicity and soulful flavors: the rich Castagne, caffè e cioccolato evokes warm autumn nights, the Crostata di pere e caramello salato balances sweet and salty perfectly, while the fresh Lampone e yogurt offers a refreshing finish—all priced modestly at €10. Accompanying these delights are locally baked breads and thoughtfully curated wines that elevate the entire dining affair.

The atmosphere at Costa di Maggio is equally spellbinding. Nestled in a beautifully restored historic building, the ambiance is a masterful blend of ancient charm and modern elegance. Every corner reveals attentive design and artful details which transport guests to a serene and intimate world. Reviewers often mention the peacefulness and the almost meditative quality of the space, which enhances the enjoyment of each carefully plated dish.

The warm hospitality led by the passionate host Gugliemo adds a personal touch that transforms a dinner into a memorable event. Guests frequently highlight the impeccable service—attentive without being intrusive—and the seamless wine pairings that accompany each course, enriching the flavors and the overall experience.

Whether you are a devoted foodie seeking to explore authentic Abruzzo cuisine or simply someone longing for a magical evening in one of Italy’s most enchanting villages, Costa di Maggio promises an unforgettable gastronomical journey that delights all the senses. As one guest perfectly put it, the restaurant is "more than just cuisine; it’s architecture, art, service, and ambiance all rolled into one breathtaking encounter."

My husband and I had a spectacular 3 night stay at Costa di Maggio. The old building is beautifully renovated, with such care and thoughtfulness, we often found ourselves happily in silence, staring at the rooms’ many details. The young man who runs the establishment, Gugliemo, is a delight, and radiates passion for this magical place and land. Our room was quiet and incredibly comfortable, and full of lovely details. The breakfasts are something we will think about for a long time - house made cakes and jams, local yogurt, delicately poached fruit … everything you need to get ready for leisurely hikes in the Mountains of Abruzzo. We had dinner there twice, and both times were delightful. The food is hyper local and seasonal, inventive, and simply delicious - especially the little amuse bouches and appetizers, which always blew us away. Special mention too to the wine list, and the fantastic work Gugliemo has done finding small local producers. There really is no drawback to this place - my only thought is that as it is a medieval building, it has irregular cobblestones and stairs, which could be difficult to navigate if you have limited mobility. It’s a beautiful place outside of the huddle and bustle of “real life”, and an ideal spot from which to explore the region. We hope to return one day.

Unique place, unique experience. Majestic rooms and superb hospitality. Worth the travel from everywhere. Thanks Guglielmo, I will see you soon.

When we first arrived at this charming inn and restaurant in the small village of Fontecchio, Italy, we knew we were in for a treat. Our evening began with an exquisite eight-course fine dining experience. Each dish was paired perfectly with wine, and the plates were nothing short of exceptional—an enchanting journey of flavors. A unique take on the Bloody Mary cocktail started the evening with a bang, setting the tone for what was to come. After dinner, we retreated to our five-star accommodations, where every detail reflected precision, good taste, and thoughtful design. The beautifully renovated 17th-century building, with its exposed stone, highlighted the historic charm of the surroundings. The service was impeccable, embodying fine dining at its best. Special mention goes to Gulielmo, the proprietor, whose warmth and attentiveness made the experience even more memorable. This inn and restaurant is a true gem, combining mouthwatering cuisine, luxurious accommodations, and an ambiance steeped in history. Highly recommended. Five stars!

This place is absolutely breathtaking—a definite must-try! We indulged in the four-course meal and were astounded by the exceptional quality of each dish. The menu brilliantly showcases locally sourced ingredients, highlighting the best the region has to offer. I still dream about the homemade pasta and the exquisitely fresh trout. The service was impeccable, with the staff attending to every detail with the utmost care and attention. Don't just walk—run to this culinary gem. You won't regret it!

A wonderful gem in the heart of Abruzzo. The service is impeccable, the place is beautifully renovated and the rooms have modern amenities but yet in a medieval style. The restaurant will one day get a Michelin star. The tasting menu was a real experience with local produce and local wine pairing. Loved the place! Highly recommend it!

What an incredible restaurant! The food presentation, flavors, and service were all superb. The saffron breadsticks, alone, were to-die-for. The entryway is a perfect merging of ancient and modern and sets the tone for the rest of your evening experience. Fontecchio is stunning, though we were there at night so couldn’t fully enjoy the views and a walk. Highly recommend eating here before the Michelin crowd discovers Costa di Maggio. There are four(??) rooms upstairs and they serve breakfast so it’d be worth an overnight!

Absolutely spectacular… a truly unforgettable gastronomical experience. The food was divine - the attention to detail incredible - well beyond one’s expectations. If you are anywhere near the area of Fontecchio, in Abruzzo, we would highly recommend that you take the time to go to Costa di Maggio. More than just the cuisine, the architecture, the decor, the art, the service, and the ambiance are beautiful. We will return. Guglielmo was gracious, and our server, Patryk, was perfect! Grazie Mille!

Amazing host, spectacular food, relaxing atmosphere, a perfect combination of you want your taste buds to explode from joy! 100/10 would recommend and definitely coming back next time I am in Italy!
